Alejandra Figueroa

Alejandra Figueroa BIOGRAPHY

Alejandra Figueroa was born in Mexico City and lived most of her childhood in Mexico. After high school, she went to Europe to study French and Italian, but returned to Mexico to study Art History and work in a museum where she took her first photography classes with a camera that she borrowed from her brother.

Upon deciding to pursue a career in photography, Alejandra moved to her favorite city. ”I knew Paris is where I wanted to live and work.” said Ms. Figueroa. Right away, she began to shoot in the museums where she felt a deep connection to the architecture, sculpture and art in these magnificent historic storehouses of beauty.

In Paris, Alejandra met the owner and founder of Imaginoir, one of Paris’s top photography laboratories where she learned and practiced printing for 4 years. She also met gallerist Agathe Gaillard who exhibited her photos and promoted her. She also credits Genvieve Bresc-Bautier, chief curator of the sculpture department for her encouragement.

Alejandra lived and worked in Paris for 20 years. During that time, she traveled all over the world to photograph museums, religious sites, architecture and anything else of beauty that caught her eye. Her camera of choice is a Nikon. She works in both B&W and color and prints in silver gelatin and cibachrome respectively. In 2008 Alejandra returned to her hometown Mexico City where she resides and works today.

Ms. Figueroa’s photographs are in numerous public and private collections around the world including the Louvre, Paris and The Vatican, Rome. She is the only living female artist to have a one-woman show at the Louvre (1997) and she has several books published on her works including Corpus, Rizzoli International Publishing, 2003 and Fragmentos, Museo de Antropologia de Xalapa, Mexico, 2003 A select listing of her solo and group exhibitions and awards follows below.
