YURI TREMLER BIOGRAPHY
Yuri Tremler was born in the Ukraine in 1961. He attended the College of Arts in Kharkov. Tremler continued his studies at the Kharkov Art and Design Academy and the Gall Design School in Germany while working as a theatre decorator and an interior designer.
In 1996 Tremler immigrated to Israel where he began working as a jewelry designer further refining his sensibilities regarding texture, shape and function. In Israel, many new materials became available to the artist especially a multimedia of acrylics, pastes and varnishes which caused the artist to refocus on painting.
His paintings combine both figurative and abstract elements, pleasing the eye with a soothing palette of colors, a great sense of balance and bold, richly textured brushwork. Tremler’s concentration on composition, color and texture are paramount. The artist reflects, “Besides the search for a new language in painting, I am intrigued by the contrast between shiny and matte surfaces, planes and volumes.”
Sometimes whimsical, sometimes nostalgic, Tremler’s paintings reach inward to our basic emotions. One can find echoes of the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century, themes of the bohemian lifestyle, memories of conversations over cocktails with friends.
His work is widely collected throughout Israel and the United States.
